[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 26/4/13

"There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested people: - G.K. Chesterton

**
"The internet is 95% porn and spam" – Margaret Atwood

(Me: hmmmm. It's all perception: what you consider porn/spam, another may find perfectly normal)

**

"Too busy counting the money I made for them" – Lalit Modi, former IPL chairman, on being asked if the BCCI still cares for him.

(Me: absolutely; you may detest him for his irreverential guts or ego, but he did invent the multi-billion IPL cricket in India.)

Defect definition…

Secret shopper…

A person hired by a retainer to monitor the store's employees or operations by posing as a shopper.

(Me: All malls, without exception, hire such secret shoppers)

**

From the science world…

Rib implant can cure deafness..

Scotland-based physicians have conducted pioneering surgery to cure hereditary deafness with a piece of rib. Briab H, 29, was fitted with an implant called a Bonebride – consisting of a piece of rib and a bone conduction implant – and given a new ear by NHS Lothian surgeons in Edinburgh.

Deep brain stimulation may reduce binge eating...

Deep brain stimulation in a precise region of the brain appears to reduce calorific intake and prompt weight loss in obese animal models, according to a study.

(Me: Sounds good – it's any day better than the fancy priced weight-reduction concoctions of dubious value)

**

Basil leaves (tulsi) are excellent for the body's nature immune system and are rich in iron and Vitamin C.

**
Blackberry tells pals when owner watches porn...

London: Blackberry users, who secretly watch porn on their new Smartphone, Z10, could be in for a nasty shock as a new built-in feature tells all their friends about the habit. The 'Show what I'm listening to' feature has been designed for users, who are fond of sharing music videos or funny YouTube Clips. But contacts of some people were alerted while they were secretly viewing porn on their Z10.

(Me: Be forewarned, if you own the Z10 handset...)

**

Make right noise for right partner…

Deep make voices and high-pitched female voices are perceived as more attractive because listeners gauge the speaker's body size from the frequency of their voice, according to a new research...

What are some tips for buying healthy cereal?

Choose a cereal that's high in fiber. Look for 10% or more fiber. You cereal should contain 50% or more wholegrain. Go easy on the sugar. Choose a cereal with 15% or less sugar content. Watch for salt. Select a brand with less than 400 mg of salt.

Did you know that apparently, the average person makes 1,140 phone calls per year? An average person also is known to spend about two years on the phone in his/her lifetime.

**

Man to wife: "The word 'job' comes from the Latin world 'jobus', which means 'Is it 5 o'clock yet?'"

(Me: Meaning, don't blame anyone who is a 'clock-watcher'!!)

News of the day...

Israel airport security allowed to read tourists' email...

Israeli security officials at Ben Gurion airport are legally allowed to demand access to tourists' email accounts and deny them entry if they refused, a top legal official said. It was done in exceptional cases where 'relevant suspicious signs' were evident.

(Freedom/liberty of an individual is no means absolute as motley self-righteous Rights' Groups might want you to believe; it is the paramount concern of every government to ensure citizen's safety and security which is far more important than the freedom of a few)

Only in the US…

Grocery store owner turns botched robbery into ad

Redding: A Northern California grocery store owner is trying to profit from a suspected thief's botched burglary attempt that was caught on video and went viral. Footage shows the man breaking the Redding store's window last month and tripping twice as he ran away. Now the store owner Kent P. has turned it into a television commercial for his business. A local newspaper reports that the ad for the store's pastrami features footage of the suspect throwing something at the store's window. The sound of shattering glass can be heard before pastrami appears on camera, followed by the voice-over: "So good, some people will do just about anything to get more."

Broadband bill charges man extra Pounds sterling 10 for being dead.

London: A broadband bill has gone viral after a UK man was charged an extra Pounds sterling 10 – for being dead.

**

Cartoon quip... "Chit-chor is being remade in Bengali"

(Me: a reference to the fraudulent chit fund scheme that has been rocking the West Bengal government. To the uninitiated, chit (pronounced "chith") in Hindi means heart, and chor is a thief, so chit-chor is a heart-stealer or lover...)

[www.keralites.net] Qatar supermarkets remove Kellogg’s Cornflakes from shelves after ministry directive

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Ministry of Business and Trade has urged Qatar's supermarkets to remove Kellogg's Cornflakes from store shelves, saying it is unfit for human consumption.

In a statement on its website, the Ministry's Consumer Protection Department said it tested samples of the cereal following complaints about its taste:

As a result of the analysis conducted on the aforesaid product in light of a complaint against it, the ministry proved the existence of 'rancid' in some samples, and accordingly the ministry withdrew these products for being invalid and harmful to human consumption.

Other analyses revealed that a number of other samples contain high degree of peroxide substance, a clear-cut evidence of the existence of rancid in these products, thus their lack of quality and validity to be left available for human consumption.

A product goes rancid when its fats, oils or other lipids chemically decompose, sometimes resulting in undesirable odors and flavors.

The CPD did not name the cereal, but a Carrefour employee told Doha News that Kellogg's, an American brand, is already being pulled from stores across the country.

[www.keralites.net] The PENGUIN Story !!!

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

THE PENGUIN STORY
The following true story happened
to Eckart von Hirschhausen,
a German doctor who became a comedian:
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Many years ago after an unpleasant engagement
on a cruise liner I visited a zoo.
I looked at a penguin on a rock and thought to myself:
"You are such a poor creature…
your wings are too small,
you can not fly and worst of all:
The Creator didn't even give you knees…
My mind was made up: poor design!
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
After walking down a little stair way I looked
through a glass pane into the pool.
Suddenly my penguin jumped
into the water and now he was flying…
Wow! He was in his element…

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

Later I did a research:
Penguins are ten times more streamlined than a Porsche!
With the equivalent amount energy
of one liter fuel they can swim 2500 km.
Penguins are excellent swimmer
and hunter and they enjoy being in the water.
They are more advanced than anything built by humans.
And I thought: poor design!
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Like the little penguin needs water to be in his element
we all need an environment where we can develop our strengths.
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
This story is in a way a metaphor
for Eckart von Hirschhausen life itself.
He realized that the hospital is not
the best environment
to develop his personal strengths.
He jumped into the cold water
and changed his environment
from the hospital to the stage.
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Today he is a very successful comedian,
speaker and bestseller author.
Think about your strengths for a moment?
Are you in your element right now?
