Re: [www.keralites.net] Do you need God?

Dear Prasad
There are couple of things whether God Exists or whether you need  God are two different things. The purpose of all these teachings is to make us good people, and not for us to fight in his name and destroy our life or our peace of  mind. I had the opprtunity to read the Bible especially the New Testament. I found  a lot of good things in that, really good teachings which if followed could make a peaceful society. I should really appreciate  Prasad for finding out such quotes from a book which has a lot of good things. It is good if it is done with good intention. As Prasad rightly pointed out everybody has the right to read and criticise  any book and it should be that way. For that matter all the religious teachings are for all the people in the world and it is not the property of a select few. It is for you to select the good things and follow it if it is good and you could as well go through all these quotes here and there  and quote it out of contest and feel that you have done a great thing which nobody has identified it in the last so many centuries.
One concept which is put in the Bible, New Testmaent is the concept of a loving God than a powerful God , A forgiving God rather than one who is out to punish you for all little misdeeds. An average man like me is quite content with a loving and forgiving God.
When one reads a religious book, a believer believes and justifies everything, one who wants to discredit it will go through all these quotes here and there, an impartial, nonbeliever analyses the merits and demerits assess it in a  neutral way.
For that matter what is written that the New Testament is the teachings of a person who lived  just for 33 years , did not have any formal education, did not have facilities like Prasad and me to check in the internet and wikipedia. His teachings were written by four ordinary people who were  his followers and that book has lot of wisdom, and lot of good things. Try to appreciate the work and of course all of us have the freedom to criticise  but try to be moderate. I have gone through some of  the quotes, the quotes about destruction and all. What Jesus taught us is to forgive and help your enemies and not to destroy anything, There are lots and lots of good teaching. Have the broadmindedness to accept those things and be  moderate in criticism
Regarding the question of whether God exists I believe so but others have the right not to and there should not be any compulsion. Whether we need God is a different question, If the concept of God is making us better individual and helping to create a peaceful and harmonious society where we help the needy, support them, contribute constructively for the  development of the society, definitely we need that concept. But on the other hand we use this concept to provide destruction, hatred- and mistrust in the society, we have to reconsider our action, probably we are doing a disservice to our society which God does not want us to do. If there is God there is only one God and we are all children of the same God and he does not want us to fight in his name, we may find  some quotes here and there to justify our deeds as Prasad has shown us. Every religion has two sides, one is the good one which makes us better people, create better society, help and support each other, peaceful society and  gives inner peace to individuals. The bad face is the fanatism which forces us to hate and destroy people of other religions. When we dislike a person in the name of his religion we become a fanatic. We may dislike a person because of his misdeeds and not because of his religion. Every religious leader has the duty to make good people and not fanatics. When we create a lot of fanatics we do a disservice to the society which God does not want us to do.
Thanks to Mr Prasad for his open views about the subject
WITH REGARDS
Dr Joseph--

Dear Mr John/Binil,

I never misquote any of the statements from bible. You can search in the bible with clause which I had given after each statement. If you think that I misquoted any statements please clarify with the meaning & evidence. Let people know the fact.
What I shared is my point of view, after reading the bible regarding some of the quotes from bible. For that ,you don't need to increase your blood pressure if you think that your belief is correct,  rather the right way of replying is to clarify each statement one by one and not just blaming the person who said the facts ,or better not to reply.
What I wrote here is only just 5% of bad & rude statements which I found in Bible. There is balance 95% which I did not write and not planned to. As you said these types of statements are only in Old Testament I am writing here a quote from New Testament which is from Jesus. Think & analyze whether these are the words of divine & peace.
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to world. No I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. I came to set sons against their fathers, daughters against their mothers, daughter –in-law against mother in law. Your Worst enemies will be the members of your own family. (Mathews 10 – 34, 35)
The reason why I said "terrorists are better than the god mentioned in bible" is as follows:-
# The god said my anger will be directed to their destruction (Bible: Isaiah 10 -25)
Why the god is so angry always, like ordinary people? We always consider and say that god is merciful and filled with divine quality. Then why this god is always getting angry and directing his anger towards somebody whom he does not like?  Directing the anger for destruction?  Destruction is always a negative quality (as seen in terrorists), if it is not for the destruction of the evils. Here the destruction is to demonstrate the super power of god.
# Behold your god will come with vengeance (Isaiah 35- 4)
How can a good god always move with vengeance? Vengeance, anger, arrogance etc are the emotions and feelings of Satan. The threatening words are usually used by devils, burglars and thieves. Anyone good at heart will definitely talk good and sweet words. Never use the words with poison, like killing, destroying, revenging, and so on. Sweet words of guidance, blessings, guidance, motivating, appreciating are divine in nature. In Bible Jehovah mainly used threatening words. Let these words never be used for threatening the common poor people by the missionaries for spreading Christianity. We have seen thousands of missionaries using these threatening words of gods to create fear in the mind of the people and force them to embrace Christianity.
What I found is that the whole bible says if you believe in me (Jehovah/Jesus) I will give you good else I will destroy you by spreading plague, by cutting hand, by sending lion etc etc. God created fear in the mind of people for getting their salute. This is the terrorists' way; to kill a few people so that others will automatically be scared and start following and supporting the terrorist. God destroyed everything which did not consider him as god. So that all those who watches will be scared and will start doring and worshipping this god. Is this not terrorism of the modern world? God becoming jealous, cruel, egoistic, revengeful, angry, and so on not against the men doing the sins, but for not bowing their head before the god that too in the 21st century!
Understanding Spirituality is not believe without questioning and don't think that those who question are spiritually deaf, blind &dumb. People should think & analyze the statements from any of the books rationally, logically and scientifically and to take only good from that, accordingly should reject the bad too.
My intention is to read as much lines as possible from the holy book and inform the world that such instructions of the god should not be practiced. If people start literally following these messages of the god, in the 21st century, what would be the fate of the world?
Think it over again and again. Go through the holy book!

Have a Great Day
Thanks & Regards
Prasad

Do you need God?

Few quotes from Old Testament of Bible which is the story of Israelites who are selected by the Supreme Power to set an example to all Human beings. Old testament speaks about the holy and unholy things happened in relation to Isralites and gentiles around them. But Jesus Christ came to this world for the redemption of all people from their SINS , the people ever lived and going to live in this world till the Kingdom of God is established in this earth. The New Testament reveal about the Love of God to Man. God the Father so loved the people so that He has given His Begotten Son to us, by His Blood ( His Sacrifice) we are set free from Sins, for those who believe in Him. That is Gods Justice or righteousness. Think about this do you sacrifice your son for your enemy? How you call this Loving Father, a terrorist. One thing keep in your mind, we are just a creature, He is the Creator of this whole universe. We will be judged according our deeds and words. You have the choice to Believe or not, you have no choice to insult any bodys belief. Why you cannot understand spirituality, only because you are spiritually deaf, blind and dumb. So do not blame something if you do not understand. You can never see the Sun with a powerful torch, unless and until it shines by itself. Since you have BIBLE with you, read the following from Old testament itself, you will realize why you do not understand word of God.

Hi ,

One of my Tamil friend told me, transfer the water to Tamilndu controlled by Kerala. He asking why Kerala not increase the measure of  transfer the water. Increase the measure of transfer then many parts of the Tamilnadu under the water. Then they get under pressure and came for compromise.  This is official.

Now unofficial :- thousands of JCB go to ERICHIL PALAM Area and make a canal to Tamilnadu border and just a small blast to make link between canal and Mullaperiyar Reservoir. Then we are 100 % safe.

Regards

A victim of Mullaperiyar.

Hi..

Jaya lalitha, Subramanium Swami, Vaiko, Kalainjar, all are very confident that the dam will stay for nother 100 years!!!!. OK, Lets agree that they are right - Just one question - If they are all so sure, let them arrange an insurance package with one of the insurance agencies that they will pay Rs 1 crore to Kerala, for each person losing life if the dam breaks... and also agree that the entire area will be cleaned by tamil men, removing all flooded mud, replace all damaged buildings, repair all roads, reinstate all electrical system make everything in working condition exactly to the original situation.. if this is not possible, they should agree to send all tamil youths as bonded labor to Kerala at their cost for 999 years.

Well, if that is not realistic, please understand that what the tamil politicians imagine now is also not at all realistic..

They are in their own fools world.

Mullaperiyar is a burning issue in kerala and all our politicians are silent why? because everybody had huge investments in tamilnadu and getting huge sums as bribe, they are frightening us of rice and vegetables then how we say India is a federal state and everybody is equal ,we should have our rights, we had given 20 members for LDF in the last govt and we got 72 kms of railway track for giving Palakkad Rly division to tamilnadu, that is our politicians boneless fellows, dont trust them for our life.

whether there is only one way to kerala, we have 600kms of coastal line and we can purchase from anywere. Dont get panic of tamils we should get united and people will start cultivating items, when they study a lesson .

What the problem is we dont have good leaders who loves kerala to take bold decisions.

And our daily manorama has more interest in MRF than kerala so they will not say anything.

I will say cancel this agreement and block all water to tamilnadu ,then they will come to us ,of-course there will be problem for some days, and also new agreement should be for a lesser period, will be renewed frequently and should take enough price for our natural resources and be used for the development of our homeland.

Now they are giving free laptops TVs with our cash.

All malayalies should be united at this point and teach this tamils a lesson and also those who makes unnecessary strikes & harthals here and make investments some were.

be united everybody for our own existence,

There is no word to describe the present day dangerous situation we face due to Mullaperiyar Dam. It appears that this was created by our own people and our own government.

Long back I remember to have seen an article (may be in this column or elsewhere) wherein it was mentioned that there was a doubt of the agreement period of "999" years. It said that one "9" appears to be of different shape and might have added later. If that was so, without the knowledge of officials (those times) of Kerala government, it never happens. In a such a case, the officials involved become No.1 wrongdoers.

Can we believe that whether man can make agreements for a period of 1000 years ?! This is beyond one's imagination. Maximum life span of 'Homo Sapiens' (Biological nomenclature for human beings) is 100 years (exceptions are there). Present day average life span of man is, say about, 60 years. (It was less than 50 years when the Mullaperiyar agreement was executed). A man who, in every possibility, does not live up to 100 years, has got no right to make "agreements" beyond his maximum life span, ie., 100 years. This is the logic. When the Mullaperiyar agreement was executed, both parties might have thought this "logic" and in every possibility they might have made it for a period of 99 years only.

The original agreement was executed by the Madras (British) government and the Travancore Kingdom. Naturally, after the Independence, all the agreements executed by the British government would have been treated as lapsed. But unfortunately, this Mullaperiyar Dam agreement continued. We Keralites and our government failed to foresee the consequences because of our casual approach on serious matters.

Moreover, the cunning TN (the then Madras) political set up made Kerala government ratify the old agreement. This has happened in 1970. The Achutha Menon Ministry at that time, also failed to foresee the problems, Kerala may face in future while ratifying the agreement executed by the British government.

Now we are paying for all those mistakes we, ourselves, committed earlier. Our political set up is ineffective. Ruling as well as the opposition parties can only fight verbally.

Only God can save our "God's Own Country". Pray for that.

Subject: [www.keralites.net] Mullaperiar controversy

In today's Newsroom program me of the Timesnow, while participating in the discussion relating to a film "Dam999" the famous film actress, speaking on behalf of DMK, had expressed her views. She said the film will hurt the sentiments of Tamil people and will create great amount of disharmony between the people of Kerala and Tamil Naadu. Hnce this film has not been released in TN theaters. Mr.Mohan Roy the producer/director of the film defended the theme and said that it is not about the Mullaperiar dam the film is made. There are more than 4000 dams in this country which are hundred years old and they all require, urgent attention. Since Mullaperiar is the live controversy between TN and Kerala at the current time, it catches the attention of the people when the film is shown. Mme Jayalalithaa the CM had written to the PM, asking him to interfere in the controversy. Since Kerala has brought to the notice of the center about the dangerous situation after the recent earthquake in Idukki dist. PM had volunteered to mediate between the TN and Kerala over this issue. Ultimately the proposal of the Kerala state for the construction of a new dam, may fructify.

[www.keralites.net] MUST READ -- Carry me out in your Arms

On my wedding day, I carried my wife in my arms. The bridal car stopped in front of our one-room flat. My buddies insisted that I carry her out of the car in my arms. So I carried her into our home. She was then plump and shy. I was a strong and happy bridegroom.

This was the scene of ten years ago.

The following days were as simple as a cup of pure water: we had a kid, I went into business and tried to make more money. When the assets were steadily increasing, the affections between us seemed to ebb. She was a civil servant. Every morning we left home together and got home almost at the same time. Our kid was studying in a boarding school.

Our marriage life seemed to be enviably happy. But the calm life was more likely to be affected by unpredictable changes.

Dew came into my life.

It was a sunny day. I stood on a spacious balcony. Dew hugged me from behind. My heart once again was immersed in her stream of love. This was the apartment I bought for her.

Dew said, You are the kind of man who best draws girls eyeballs. Her words suddenly reminded me of my wife. When we just married, my wife said, Men like you, once successful, will be very attractive to girls. Thinking of this, I became somewhat hesitant. I knew I had betrayed my wife. But I couldn’t help doing so.

I moved Dew’s hands aside and said, You go to select some furniture, O.K.? I’ve got something to do in the company. Obviously she was unhappy, because I had promised her to go and see with her. At the moment, the idea of divorce became clearer in my mind although it used to be something impossible to me.

However, I found it rather difficult to tell my wife about it. No matter how mildly I mentioned it to her, she would be deeply hurt. Honestly, she was a good wife. Every evening she was busy preparing dinner. I was sitting in front of the TV. The dinner was ready soon. Then we watched TV together. Or, I was lounging before the computer, visualizing Dew's body. This was the means of my entertainment.

One day I said to her in a slight joking way, suppose we divorce, what will you do? She stared at me for a few seconds without a word. Apparently she believed that divorce was something too far away from her. I couldn’t imagine how she would react once she got to know I was serious.

When my wife went to my office, Dew had just stepped out. Almost all the staff looked at my wife with a sympathetic eye and tried to hide something while talking with her. She seemed to have got some hint. She gently smiled at my subordinates. But I read some hurt in her eyes.

Once again, Dew said to me, He Ning, divorce her, O.K.? Then we live together. I nodded. I knew I could not hesitate any more.

When my wife served the last dish, I held her hand. I’ve got something to tell you, I said.

She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I didn’t know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want to divorce. I raised a serious topic calmly.

She didn’t seem to be much annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why? I’m serious. I avoided her question. This so-called answer turned her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man!

At that night, we didn’t talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer, because my heart had gone to Dew.

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. I felt a pain in my heart. The woman who had been living ten years with me would become a stranger one day. But I could not take back what I had said.

Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer.

A late night, I came back home after entertaining my clients. I saw her writing something at the table. I fell asleep fast. When I woke up, I found she was still there. I turned over and was asleep again.

She brought up her divorce conditions: she didn’t want anything from me, but I was supposed to give her one month’s time before divorce, and in the month’s time we must live as normal life as possible. Her reason was simple: our son would finish his summer vacation a month later and she didn't want him to see our marriage was broken.

She passed me the agreement she drafted, and then asked me, He Ning, do you still remember how I entered our bridal room on the wedding day? This question suddenly brought back all those wonderful memories to me. I nodded and said, I remember . You carried me in your arms , she continued, so, I have a requirement, that is, you carry me out in your arms on the day when we divorce. From now to the end of this month, you must carry me out from the bedroom to the door every morning.

I accepted with a smile. I knew she missed those sweet days and wished to end her marriage with a romantic form.

I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions. She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she does, she has to face the result of divorce, she said scornfully. Her words more or less made me feel uncomfortable.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. We even treated each other as a stranger. So when I carried her out for the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mummy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly, Let us start from today, don’t tell our son. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for bus, I drove to office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. We were so close that I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn’t looked at this intimate woman carefully for a long time. I found she was not young any more. There were some fine wrinkles on her face.

On the third day, she whispered to me, the outside garden is being demolished. Be careful when you pass there.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I seemed to feel that we were still an intimate couple and I was holding my sweetheart in my arms. The visualization of Dew became vaguer.

On the fifth and sixth day, she kept reminding me something, such as, where she put the ironed shirts, I should be careful while cooking, etc. I nodded. The sense of intimacy was even stronger.

I didn’t tell Dew about this.

I felt it was easier to carry her. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger. I said to her, It seems not difficult to carry you now.

She was picking her dresses. I was waiting to carry her out. She tried quite a few but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, All my dresses have grown fatter. I smiled. But I suddenly realized that it was because she was thinner that I could carry her more easily, not because I was stronger. I knew she had buried all the bitterness in her heart. Again, I felt a sense of pain. Subconsciously I reached out a hand to touch her head.

Our son came in at the moment. Dad, it's time to carry mum out. He said. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had been an essential part of his life. She gestured our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face because I was afraid I would change my mind at the last minute. I held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded
my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly, as if we came back to our wedding day. But her much lighter weight made me sad.

On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. She said, Actually I hope you will hold me in your arms until we are old.

I held her tightly and said, Both you and I didn't notice that our life was lack of such intimacy.

I jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my decision. I walked upstairs. Dew opened the door. I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I won't divorce. I'm serious.

She looked at me, astonished. The she touched my forehead. You got no fever. She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I can only say sorry to you, I won t divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of life, not because we didn’t love each other any more. Now I understand that since I carried her into the home, she gave birth to our child, I am supposed
to hold her until I am old. So I have to say sorry to you.

Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into cry. I walked downstairs and drove to the office.

When I passed the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet for my wife which was her favorite. The salesgirl asked me to write the greeting words on the card. I smiled and wrote, "I'll carry you out every morning until we are old."
